Drupal and it’s oddities

Well, I am going to try my hand at getting a replacement site going for the slightly aging look of the Lone Star Spirits site. I am going to try and use Drupal as it seems to be very versatile and yet clean and modular. I think I can get something whipped out in a few weeks or a month or so. Lates.

Lack of posts

Well, I have been busy looking for a job and rebuilding the back fence. The former is because of getting laid off from First Community Bank which turned into Wells Fargo. The latter is because of Hurricane Rita. My father is helping me with the fence as I have no talent for anything related to woodworking. Not much else is going on though so I will cut out. I will try to make more updates to this blog even though not many people read it.

Serenity where art thou

We went to see it today and it rocked. I enjoyed the movie a lot and it made me wish that the TV show would come back. I will not give any spoilers to it but will say it is worth the cost to see it. Lates

It was a Last work day of sorts…

Well, today was my last day as an employee for First Community Bank(FCB). They were purchased by Wells Fargo(WF) and WF had no IT job openings in or around Houston, TX for me to pick up on. It was not a bad run as I started my employment with banks starting with Community State Bank(CSB) in March of 2001. After a few years or so they were bought by FCB. I got to work for FCB until today, September 30th, 2005. Technically the last month or a little bit more was under the WF tent but it was still going by FCB. All those Bank regulations are fun to follow, don’t ya know. I am sure I will find another job soon. Maybe it will be closer to home. Anyway, I am going to get going. I got chores to do around the house and all that rubbish. Later…

I enjoy online Comics

When I see comic strips with panels like this in one, I find it hard not to laugh…
Dukes of Hazzard rip from PVPOnline.com
I have found that PVPOnline has done well over the years and I enjoy reading the strip daily. Currently I have a link for Scott Kurtz’s site on the links area of this blog. In case you did not know he is the writer/artist/oddball that does the strangeness that is PVP. Anyway, gotta disappear again…

Giant Squid

Man, you should read about the giant squid at National Geographic. They got some pictures of it. The thing is about 25 feet or 8 meters. It was found in the North Pacific Ocean. Anyway, check it out.

Aftermath of Rita

Well, Rita was a bit of a dud as far as hurricanes go. I am still glad we got ready just in case it was no dud. I do not have much more to say on this subject except that going without A/C always sucks. Well, I gotta finish getting ready for work. Lates…

Hurricane Rita

Well, my wife and I live on the other side of Houston but that is no guarantee that we will be safe. I think we will plan for it to hit just in case it does. As of this writing it is a category 4 which is pretty harsh. I do remember going through Hurricane Alicia when I was a kid in the 80’s. I think it was only a category 3 but it was pretty harsh. I lived in Spring Branch at the time. Who would have guessed when my wife and I got a house we would get one in Spring Branch. All I know is that we have two vehicles and we would have to take both of them with us just in case. Oh well, I can’t wait for this to be over…

Ozzfest 2005

To be short, it was fun. My sister Sherie, my Nephew Charlie, and my Niece’s husband Richard went with me to Ozzfest yesterday. We got there a little after 10a or so even though it started at 9a. It was very hot so I was drinking water most of the day. I watched some of the bands that were on the second stage for a while. Of course I had to stay a bit back because the bass sound was hurting my ears if I got too close. I listen to a bit of Rob Zombie on the second stage then went to the lawn to sit and wait for the first band on the main stage. I ended up buying an Ozzy hat but no shirt as I could not afford to pay 35 bucks for a tee shirt. I got a bit red from the sun and toward the end of Black Sabbath’s set it started raining bad enough for me to want to leave. We got out of there and it took a long time to get home even though it was only in the Woodlands.

Broken toe and Ozzy

Well, my toe seems to be doing better. I also got some new shoes that might not cause pain like steel-toed ones do. From what my nephew Charlie said, we will be up there the entire day. All I know is that I am going there specifically to see Ozzy so I do not care as much when we get there as long as the aforementioned requirement is satisfied. So, enough of my jibber-jabbering. I may update this after the concert to say my thoughts on it. Lates…

Broken parts

You know, normally I am very sure footed on stairs, but this past Sunday night I fell down the last 4 or 5 steps at home. What really did not help matters is that I landed on both knees and my toes on my right foot. The knees are ok but my big toe on my right foot seems to be broken. I did not go to a doctor as it would be a waste of time. I was unable to walk for the most part of Monday because every time I moved it seemed to move my toe and cause large amounts of pain. I got some medical tape and taped my toes together to stabilize it and that seems to have helped a lot. I have an Ozzy concert to go to this coming Saturday so it will be fun with a broken toe. 😐

Return to Oz

I was poking through the Internet Movie Database recently and came across a movie I saw in the 80’s. It is as the above title suggests, Return to Oz. It came out in 1985. I remember being slightly spooked as it was not the same type of movie as the 1939 Wizard of Oz. With characters like ‘Tik-Tok’, ‘Jack Pumpkinhead’, and some creepy characters like the ‘Wheelers’ made this movie rather neat. I would not go to watch it expecting it to be anything like the old movie with Judy Garland in it. It has a lot of aspects that are from the original stories of Oz. I found it on Amazon in DVD format and might pick it up one day soon.

Been busy

We have been a bit busy these past couple of weeks working on seperating the Houston branches from the San Antonio ones. I think it came out ok even with a lot of little odds and ends to take care of.

Fantastic Four

A few weeks ago or so my wife and I went to see the movie Fantastic Four. While I know they deviated from certain specifics it was overall a decent movie. They made it look like it could happen and how the people reacted to them when they were found out was rather good. Anyway, I would see it again.

Ozzy Concert

Next month I will be going to the Ozzy concert. It is on a Saturday which is cool. They will be coming to Houston during that time and it may be Ozzy’s last time as he is getting on in the years. You never know when it will be his last year of doing it.

Fourth of July

Man, the years go by quickly. Not much to say about this coming July 4th. I just plan to relax and eat some food. I get Monday off since I work for a bank so that’s all good. I may say more later.

Joys of IP Unnumbered

About a month or so ago I learned how do something on a Cisco Router called ‘IP Unnumbered’. The neat thing about it is that if I have two of them hooked together over a connection with the CSU/DSU WIC card in it I do not need a set of WAN IP addresses. It uses the ‘fastethernet0’ as it’s pseudo address. It took me a short bit to wrap my mind around the routing for it but once it clicked it became easy. I learned it as we hooked up a T1 connection between the main San Antonio location and a location in Webster, TX. I found out about the command when I was hooking up a T1 for an Internet connection and the ISP told me to use that command. When I learn a new command or trick I have to figure out all aspects of it if time presents itself. Luckly it did so now I am versed in that method. You know, if I was rich I think I would buy a bunch of routers and bridges and other devices just to tinker with them. Alas, I am not flush with the green so I just learn as I get chances to.

A Very Moving song

I recently went to this web site: http://www.nickcannonmusic.com/
I usually do not like to listen to this type of music as it normally talks about shooting people and doing other messed up stuff but I found that the song “Can I Live?” by Nick Cannon to be a moving song, rap, or whatever. He does have a good voice but I recommend you listen to the words also. If you get the chance watch the music video.

Always so busy

You know, I noticed something today. Time just goes by way too fast. I don’t know if it just seems that way or my mind is going more so I do not remember much of what happens. You never know, at least I don’t. 🙂
When it rains it pours is so very true, it seems that for a while things will be going decent and smooth then all of a sudden a lot of stuff gets dumped into your lap and taking care of it takes time.

Houston’s Mayor

I for one am a bit tired of some of the crap that this ass monkey is doing.
Picture of Bill White
Below is a link to his most recent scheme to ‘improve’ the city.

At first this guy seemed ok for the most part. Now with all the money wasting and attempts to “boost revenues” with some bad programs, he is showing his true colors. At the time he was elected I was not a Houstonian but now that I am, I know I will not vote for him when it comes around again.
