Star Wars III

What can I say but ‘about freaking time’. While I cannot say it was the best one out of the six, it easily beats Episode one and two. One was too fake looking, and two was just bland for the most part. Three had the action, things looked more realistic, and no freaking Jar-Jar. Well, except for a cameo shot in which he does not say a damn thing. W00t!!! Of course Lucas could not write a good romantic scene to save anyone’s life including his own. All in all, it was worth seeing it on the big screen.

Looooooong Week

So far this week has dragged on. Oh well, the weekend is coming up and it will be a long one at that. No work on Monday means good times. This week up at work I got the Cisco 1721 router talking to the new T1. I even got the Cisco PIX 505 almost totally configured. I still have a few items to set up on the PIX and it will be all done. I enjoy how easy most of the Cisco stuff actually is to configure. Of course I never use a GUI or anything like that. Command line all the way as usual. Much easier that way it is…

Apple Mac Mini

Most of my growing up years I was not a fan of Apple. It is widely known by friends and family of my thoughts about not just the company but the awkwardness of the OS. That was until OSX came along. I have found it to be mostly clean and not too bad of an Operating System which brings me to the title of this entry. A few months back I had the pleasure of test driving a couple of these units. I found that the Mini is worth the sticker price. In fact, I may one day soon get one of my own. w00t!! Below is the specs of what I want.
• 1.25GHz PowerPC G4
• 512MB DDR333 SDRAM – 1 DIMM
• 40GB Ultra ATA drive
• 4x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
• Internal Bluetooth + AirPort Extreme Card
• 56K v.92 Modem
• Mac OS X – U.S. English
Those options jump it up to $748.00 but I would still find that worth it…

Star Wars Episode 3

Where to begin… I for one plan to go see it soon after it comes out. I really hope that it is decent and not bile like “The Phantom Menace” and “Attack of the Clones” were. I do not care for the subtitle of this one either but “Revenge of the Sith” will hopefully be better. If the reviews are any indication of its quality then I will be a bit happier.

No A/C and no beer make Jacob go something, something…

I am on a roll this week with my entries. Anyway, I think it was Tuesday night our A/C went out. I never remember the house getting as hot as it has gotten these past few days. Even with the windows open and almost everything that generates heat being turned off it still is horrible. Today it should be getting fixed which is a good thing. I love being in Texas but the heat sometimes gets to me and that is why I am glad we live in an age of A/C. Of course the house gets hotter than it is outside. Oh well, I am hoping things will be ok when I step through the entrance of the Smock house. Well, specifically this Smock’s house.

Those Sonic punks

One thing I have noticed is that Sonic decided to get stingy with their cherries on their mixed cherry flavored drinks. The last few times that I have been there I have had to specifically request it or say something after they bring the drink out. I know it sounds petty but I get more than irritated because they show cherries in the pictures of the drinks, have included them in the past, and so I want my freaking cherry(ies). Grrrrr…

Houston’s Metro scumbags

I have never been a fan of Metro for more than a few reasons. From what I have seen, they have sunk to a new low. Check out what it says on BlogHouston.net
I think was really makes me mad is that they refuse to recant on their idiotic decision to not bring actual security back. It makes me real nervous about ever riding a bus with a Metro name slapped on the side of it. Well, more so than usual.

The Weekend is coming up

Well, this has been a long week and I am really glad the weekend is tomorrow. I do not have a lot planned so I might do some work on one of the computers I am getting working for the Inlaws. I also have extensive plans for much of the stuff in my computer room so I can keep busy. Anyway, not much else is happening. Lates…

The passing of a Pope

I know it has been in the news a lot reciently and the media is quickly talking about it every second they can, but most have not really said much about his life. Karol Wojtyla was his actual name and he was Polish, which is rare for a Pol to be a Pope. Below is a short biography on his life. It was ‘borrowed’ from the Vatican’s website.

Rodeo fun

I forgot to mention when the Rodeo was in Houston that my wife and I went…three times. One thing I can say is that I got a good workout and might have lost weight in my wallet as the prices for everything was horrible. We first went to see Martina McBride then went to see Clint Black. Finally we went to see Clay Walker. I enjoyed Clint Black the most. I even rode a scary ride at the carnival that was there. It spinned around and then went on it’s side while pushing my body to the wall of it. I was slightly nervous about it and almost did not ride it. Time to go…

Easter Weekend

My wife and I just got out from going to her church. Last night we went to mine out in Plantersville. It was fun. Not much else to report at the moment…

I got a DVD Burner

It is a DVR-A09XL Pioneer drive with a black front. The max writes are below for each format it can handle.
DVD-R 16x
DVD+R 16x
DVD-RW 6x
DVD+RW 4x
DVD+R DL 6x
CD-R 40x
CD-RW 24x
The link to the page showing the specs for this unit is here.
So far it is pretty sweet. I am starting to do backups with it and plan to learn how to compile dvd movies one day. I got some DVD-R and DVD+RW blanks. I would have gone with DVD-RW blanks but I could not find them in more than 10 in a pack unlike the +RW blanks. I would have gotten some Dual Layer blanks but they are a bit costly right now. I even noticed that my burner can go faster than most of the media I was able to find can handle which is kinda neat. Anyway, I plan to waste a few DVD-R disks toying with the DVD movie functions. Gotta go… Later.

The evils of Scientology

San Antonio abound yet again

My boss and I are going to be up in San Antonio some of next week to open a new branch of First Community Bank. It will be fun. Mostly we make sure the network equipment and workstations are ready for opening day which is still slated for early next week. Thankfully I am not doing the driving or we would be screwed. I was never good at finding my way on city streets and freeways. I will miss one thing, well, she is not a thing. My wife and I do not normally spend that much time apart(except when at work) but I do have my cell phone and we have the nationwide long distance on our home phone so it’s all good. Got to go…lates.

Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy

The movie will be coming out on April 29, 2005. I cannot wait. Some people I know will gripe that it will not be exactly like the book. Some of those same people do not know or realize that it had a radio and TV show that each varied a lot from the books. I am hoping it will be in a manner that would make Douglas Adams(The creator of HGTG) proud. If you did not know, he died on May 11, 2001. Here is to hoping that this movie will have sequels and it is not all the books crammed into one movie.

Sen. Ted Kennedy’s Chappaquiddick scandal

This comic strip says something about the Sen. Ted Kennedy’s Chappaquiddick scandal that happened a long while back.
Prickly City by Scott Stantis Monday, 7 February 2005
I do not jump into politics often at least on here but when I saw this strip I had to post it. If you want more information on this incident go to this web site.

I like RAID

No, not the bug spray. RAID means “Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks”. It is a term used in the computing world for a collection of hard drives with fault tolerance so if one drive were to die, you could just replace it without downtime. Up here at work we just got a new server with 2gigs of RAM, two Pentium 4 Xeon 3.06Ghz processors, and two 36gig drives for a RAID 1(mirror). The second RAID device is 7 146gig drives acting as one which happens to be running RAID 5. This is fun stuff at least to me…anyway, gotta go…

Been room cleaning

I have been cleaning up my computer room since we moved into our house last year. It is one of those slow processes as I have limited space and not the whole house. It is coming along good and the servers are working good in the closet. I just need to clean the work bench off and rewire the power cables so it is not so much of a mess. Gotta go…

1 Year Anniversary

On the 24th it will have been one year since my wife and I tied the knot. It has been an interesting year and I hope of many more. I love my wife very much and am glad she has tolerated my weird nature for as long as she has. Anyway, gotta go…

‘Aging’ by a 26 year old

You know you wonder where time goes when you think about how long ago you graduated high school. I happened to graduate in 1997. What kind of scares me is that I remember it like it was yesterday and I have trouble remember what I actually did yesterday. All kidding aside, I have never been one for thinking old and to know me is to see a mind of a child with the logic of an old man. I have just started thinking “damn, has it been that long” more and more. One day I will be 30 and look back on everything wondering where the time has gone and is going. If you happen to think that I am just a young whipper-snapper then this was not written for you, as it were… I cannot say I have lived a boring life but I can say I got away from childhood with less pain than many. I have just found this life to be interesting so far and for what seems like a long time goes by so damn fast. Anyway, I just felt like rambling a bit so don’t mind me, I am just going to go and sit in my rocker and shout at the young-ins for a piece…
